On Saturday 12th August we will be hosting an archaeology open day as part of the 2023 field School (#Glencoe2023) at the NTS Visitor Centre in Glencoe. This will run from 10am-4pm and feature a variety of activities and experiences for all audiences!
Designed by Elizabeth Robertson, Dr Gareth Beale and our students audio and visual installations exploring the archaeology, landscape and stories of Glencoe will be performed in the reconstructed 17th century turf house at the visitor centre. These will explore iconic and lesser known stories from this landscape as well as the lives of people in Glencoe in the early modern period, and our archaeological investigations.
There will also be an artefact handling stall where you can get hands on with artefacts uncovered during this and previous seasons excavations which have focused on shieling huts and an illicit whisky still house (2021/22) and the summer residence of a Macdonald Chief (2023).
We will also have an array of family archaeology and traditional craft activities delivered by our team and our partners at the NTS.
