Summer Season 2024: Get Involved!

As part of our Glencoe Field School, in collaboration with the National Trust for Scotland, we will be hosting drop-in site tours at our excavations at Achnacon between the 13th-23rd June, as well as a host of opportunities to find out more about our work and get involved!

To visit the site you can park at the NTS Visitor Centre in Glencoe and follow the Glencoe Greenway up the Glen towards Achnacon (this will be signposted from the visitor centre), or walk from Glencoe Village to along the Greenway. You will find our site beside the path about 10-20 mins away from the Visitor Centre, nearby the sheepfold on the Gleann Leac-na-Muidhe track (please do not park on this private track).

We will be hosting a ‘Hands on History’ dig for a day event on Saturday the 15th June if you would like to get your hands dirty and help us explore life in Glencoe hundreds of years ago. This is a family friendly opportunity to try your hand at archaeological excavation. To book a place get in touch with us at: e.stewart.1@research.gla.ac.uk

This is open to anyone between the ages of 10-100 (children under 18 should be accompanied by a responsible adult). Please book via the address above if you’d like to get involved. We also have places for volunteers throughout our field season to try out archaeological excavation and survey so get in touch if you would be interested.

We will also be hosting an Archaeology Open Day at the National Trust for Scotland’s reconstructed turf house in collaboration with the National Trust for Scotland and Glencoe Folk Museum teams. This will be held on the 22nd June and is open to everyone. We will be running archaeology and traditional craft activities for all ages, as well as artefact handling, storytelling and an audio-visual installation in the turf house.
