Storytelling

One of our aims as a project is to share the stories we find through our archaeological practice with broader communities of people in Glencoe, across Scotland and beyond! Archaeology is a discipline and practice all about storytelling, we question what a patch of soil, sherd of pottery or piece of flattened musket shot means, and in answering this construct stories, or narratives, which form our interpretations and communicate our ideas.

At the Glencoe Landscape Archaeology and Storytelling project we aim to embed storytelling in our practice beyond this. Each year we share stories from our research and practice on our blog and at events such as our ‘Festival of Archaeology’ in Glencoe, during site tours, evening lectures and activities with audiences young and old. Our team also travel to present our stories from Glencoe across the UK and abroad at conferences. We also work with partners including the National Trust for Scotland and Glencoe Folk Museum to ensure the stories we uncover are told in their landscape.

We believe in the power of storytelling to bring meaningful change, shift perceptions and shape our imagined pasts and futures.

Our creative team use a variety of techniques to bring stories from this landscape alive including soundscapes, film-making, pigment-making and more.
